ICU NTGH
Ed Martinez (ICU JHH), Michael D, Cuong V and Au V had 3 sessions with various doctors in ICU NTGH before CoVid caused chaos. Aspects of presentation and Q &A style still being sorted at end of the 3rd session. Very positive feeling about development of the relationship and ICU NTGH happy with knowledge transfer. Ed M has also made the suggestion of doing the “BASIC” course for junior doctors and nurses in ICU. Logistics in delivery may be challenging. However, if the model we used for the Primary trauma care course is utilised, it may be possible to simply supervise from Australia.
Paediatric anaesthesia and surgery, NInh Thuan Hospital, Vietnam
A Vietnamese language video on small and large bowel stomas (including creation, complications and how to deal with them) was made with online collaboration between Dr Hieu, Dr Lam, Dr Phat, Cuong V, Au V, Jon G and John C. This was a protracted process. Operating footage was obtained by dr Lam and Phat using part of a pig abdominal wall and gut. Whilst Au V and John C have reservations on some “timings”, that was not the view of either of the VN surgeons and we have uploaded the video to the MESCH YouTube channel – as a public video with age restrictions
Dr Lam wants to create a NTGH surgical YouTube channel and create their own videos for doing simple procedures. Video editing software was donated by Narelle and John C so the surgeons can do this.
A large box of (in date) various sutures was donated by John Hunter Hospital and sent by air using a contact of Cuong V’s.
A pan-tilt-zoom camera was donated by the IT department of Hunter Area Health service. We are trying to get it to Ninh Thuan,

Other Anaesthesia, surgery and nursing in Vietnam: Buôn Ma Thuột hospital (Đắk Lắk province – southern central highlands) on hold till after CoVid chaos.
Saonleo sewing project North Pentecost, Vanuatu Tony Rhodes (Mullane’s plumbing and electrical) keen to be involved with Narelle and Debra on this training and production facility within Debra’s village of Angoro. Mudmap plans becoming clearer. Debra is working on a design for the workroom with Narelle C.
